Amaryllis means 'to sparkle' in Greek. The name derived from a poem by Virgil, in which a shepherdess named Amaryllis fell madly in love with a gardener named Alteo. In the poem, she walked to his door daily for one month and pierced her own heart each day with a golden arrow, the blood from Amaryllis' heart creates our well-loved flowers along the path. This drawing is from the 100 Days of Flowers projected completed in 2015.
This is an original drawing created with Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils on 250gsm Bristol artist paper.
