It is believed that baseball was first played in Colombia in the 1870’s. By the early 1900’s it had taken roots and engrained in the sporting culture of Colombia. The country has had a presence in the Majors since Lou Castro in 1902 to the 2010 World Series MVP Édgar Rentería. Today the country supports a six-team league called the Liga Profesional del Béisbol Colombiano. The league was originally founded in 1948. By 2020 the league’s quality of play had become so good they were invited to play in the Serie de Caribe. The Vaqueros de Montería had the honor of being the first Colombian team to participate. Every year more and more Colombians make it to the Majors. Our hat is dedicated to all the Colombians that have helped build the South American baseball culture.
