As if we needed reminding that the best treasures are sometimes found in the rain, we discovered this antique SNCF oil lantern one rainy brocante morning.

We love a lantern especially through the winter months, sat on shelves or side tables, or as a breakfast or coffee table centerpiece, and offering a gentle glow when lit.

And this one, dating back to the early 20h century is very special indeed.

Instead of oil, we’ve enjoyed this lantern by simply placing a lit beeswax candle on the lantern’s wick.
