• Cooking time: Allow four quarts of water for each pound of pasta. Bring water to a rapid boil then add pasta and 1 Tbsp salt, optional. Cook uncovered in rapid boiling water until pasta is tender yet firm (al dente). Stir occasionally. Approximate cooking time is 8 to 10 minutes. Do not overcook. Drain pasta immediately in a colander. Serve at once.
